Evolution of Android Versions from 2008 to 2021:

  1.  Android 1.0: Alpha: The first version of Android was released on September 23, 2008, known as Android 1.0. This alpha version had a number of bugs, including the need for a physical keyboard or hardware buttons. It has Android API (Application Program Interface) Level 1. The API level is an integer value that identifies the API framework revision provided by the version of the Android platform.

  2. Android 1.1: Beta: On February 9, 2009, the second version of Android, the Android beta version, was released, fixing API changes and issues with 1.0. This Android version has been released for T-Mobile G1 devices only.

  3. Android 1.5 Cupcake: On February 9, 2009, the third version of Android, Android 1.5, Cupcake was released, based entirely on the Linux kernel 2.6.27. Android 1.5 was the first release to officially use a codename based on a "dessert item" known as a cupcake.

  4. Android 1.6: Donut: Released on September 15, 2009, Android version 1.6 has been dubbed "Donut", due to its delicious ring-shaped flavor. Features such as enhanced user experience, text-to-speech support, improved video aspects, and sophisticated search integration helped Google solidify itself in a highly competitive smartphone market.

  5. Android 2.0: Eclair: Android 2.0 was released in October 2009. A bug fix version called 2.0.1 came a few months later in December 2009. Then in January 2010 came Android 2.1 with animation features.

  6. Android 2.2: Froyo: Android version 2.2 was released on May 20, 2010. Android 2.2 is just about speed and nothing else. In short, for Frozen Yoghurt, Google has technically accelerated this version. Another unique feature is its uniquely redesigned home screen. This streamlined the entire process, ensuring better functionality for the device.

  7. Android 2.3: Gingerbread: Gingerbread ranks 7th on the list of Android versions released on December 6, 2010. The main enhanced feature is the introduction of a gaming API with improved graphical intense gaming, thus increasing the number of mobile games.

  8. Android 3.0 Honeycomb: Google introduced Android 3.0 in February 2011 and called it Honeycomb. Made just for tablets, its versions followed the 3.1 and 3.2 speeds. Gingerbread was actually Android's first tablet-only update.

  9. Android 4.0: Ice Cream Sandwich: The ice cream sandwich was released on 19 October 2011, with many features to enter the era of modern design. A snapshot was presented to take a screenshot with the volume and power buttons. The Android version list includes a variety of Android operating systems, but compared to all older versions, the Ice Cream Sandwich widgets are more robust and resizable.

  10. Android 4.1: Jelly Bean: The version of Android, known as Jelly Bean, was made available on the home screen in June 2012 with Google Digital Assistant technology. Visual predictive intelligence utility provides extensible and interactive instructions. In addition, users can enjoy multi-user support and many other valuable features in Play.

  11. Android 4.4: KitKat: Google officially released Android version 4.4 in 2013, dubbed KitKat. Nestle offered full support and even launched a special advertising campaign on its release. Google wanted a dessert name that everyone knew and so partnered with Nestle for the code name Kitkat. And it can run more efficiently on most devices than previous Android versions. KitKat has been optimized to run a wide range of older versions from the Android version list. The smartphone must have at least 512 MB RAM.

  12.  Android 5.0: Lollipop: Lollipop or android version 5.0 was released on November 12, 2014, with a redesigned user interface and "Material Design". It offers a new and modern look extended across all Android, apps and Google products. Lollipop in the Android version list comes with many amazing features including support for better notification management.

  13. Android 6.0: Marshmallow: Android 6.0, Marshmallow, has been released under the code name Android M on 5 october 2015 . It has made a number of changes that will definitely have a big impact. Dosage mode which drastically reduces power consumption when the device is idle, allows app selection, fully supported USB C, built-in fingerprint sensor support system are some of them.

  14. Android 7.0: Nougat: Android "Nougat" was released on August 22, 2016. The Google Nexus was the first smartphone to receive an update to this version. This version gave the smart phone two key features, split screen and DOZE power saving mechanism and quick application installation.

  15.  Android 8.0: Oreo: Android Oreo was released to the public on August 21, 2017. It comes with more features like picture-in-picture, password autofill, notification dots, smart text selection, snooze notification. Android Nougat has introduced the concept of split screen.

  16. Android 9: Pie: On August 6, 2018, Google announced the final release of Android 9, titled "Pie", an update of which is initially available for existing Google Pixel devices. Google has made many improvements to this version in terms of design and security. It uses Material Design 2.0 concept, the smartphone can be used flexibly.

  17. Android 10: Android Q: Every time Google comes up with the latest Android version, Android version 10 was released in September 2019. This Android version is currently available in all-new devices and is slowly reaching existing phones around the world.

  18. Android 11: Android 11 Android latest version of Android 11.0 is in progress in 2020. The latest update that previews the developer's history is a preview of the platform that can be viewed at any time. Google released the first Android 11 preview on February 19, 2020.
